ZEC worth 1235 USD, are you chasing it?
Winklevoss just filed a spot ETF application, the NU7 upgrade voting is due 10 days after, but Grayscale has had continuous net outflows exceeding 100 million — just now, ZEC dropped from 1700 to 1112 then bounced back to 1235, 24-hour trading volume shrank, yet the funding rate remains positive. So is this wave a "consolidation followed by a second wave main rise," or are institutions using the ETF bullish news to offload to you?
Let's look at the surface: bullish news bombarding, but price not rising.
In the past two weeks, it retraced 27% from the 1600-1700 high, dropped to around 1112 on October 8, then rebounded to 1235 to consolidate. Market cap about 20.8 billion, ranked 10th, circulating supply 16.9 million, shielded pool accounts for 25-30% — real privacy usage is increasing, not pure speculation.
Candlesticks tell you: price is above the 50-day/200-day moving averages (medium to long term bullish), but below the 20-day moving average (1330-1400), MACD is bearish but recovering, RSI 44-48 neutral. All indicators say one thing: direction is undecided, don't rush to bet heavily.
First thing: ETF is coming, but institutions are running.
On October 6, Winklevoss Asset Services submitted an S-1 application for a spot ZEC ETF (proposed ticker WINK, fee 0.25%, custody by Gemini). This is a milestone institutional signal in the privacy coin sector.
Sounds impressive? But look at the other side —
Grayscale's ZCSH spot ETF had continuous net outflows in early October, totaling over 100 million USD. Institutions are taking profits.
In the same sector, applying for a new ETF while withdrawing from the old ETF. What does this mean?
Institutions are optimistic about the long-term narrative of privacy coins but think the current price — is expensive.
From the September high of 1600-1700, Grayscale's institutional unrealized gains are huge; they are selling in the ETF and waiting for a pullback to re-enter. Chasing at 1235 means you're carrying their bags.
Second thing: NU7 upgrade is coming, but the bullish news may have been priced in already.
NU7 upgrade is live on testnet: block time target reduced from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, introducing Network Sustainability Mechanism, mainnet activation decision window around October 20, possibly officially activated in early November.
Meanwhile, developers plan to advance quantum-resistant signatures by January 2027 (first covering the transparent pool, about 70% of supply).
In plain language:
ZEC transaction speed triples, from "slow" to "fast"
Network sustainability mechanism makes token economics healthier
Quantum resistance = future-proof security upgrade
But here’s the problem — the market has already priced in these positives.
The September surge from a few hundred to 1700 was a front-run of NU7 and ETF narratives. Now that the bullish news is about to land, it’s the classic "buy the rumor, sell the news" scenario.
Retail investors wait for the news to land, institutions run before it lands. This is not a conspiracy, it’s a pattern.
Third thing: the technicals have reached a point where a choice must be made.
1235 is an awkward position.
Above, 1240-1250 is the current consolidation upper boundary; breaking through can target 1300-1350.
Below, 1185-1200 is the recent pullback low; breaking it leads to 1100-1150.
Further down, 1080-1100 is mid-term structural support; breaking it changes the trend.
Volume is weak during the rebound phase, no volume confirmation. What does this mean? It means the rebound from 1112 to 1235 is short covering plus retail bottom-fishing, not institutions accumulating.
Funding rate is mildly positive (0.005%/8h), no extreme crowding, but also indicates longs are slowly adding positions, not yet at FOMO stage.
Long vs short battle, judge for yourself.
Bullish logic:
Winklevoss filed spot ETF application, institutional milestone for privacy coins
NU7 upgrade voting on October 20, activation in November, technical paradigm shift
Shielded pool ratio 25-30% rising steadily, real usage growing
21 million hard cap, scarcity logic similar to BTC
Major trend still in upward channel, above 50-day/200-day moving averages
Bearish logic:
Grayscale ZCSH ETF continuous net outflows over 100 million, institutions taking profits
27% retracement from 1700, high-level trapped positions need digestion
Unfavorable macro: Fed rate hike in September, US Treasury yields high at 5.2-5.35%
BTC oscillating down from 82k-84k, risk appetite cooling
Rebound volume shrinks, lacks institutional capital confirmation
Trading strategy
Short-term traders:
Don’t chase near 1235 now. Wait for two scenarios: one, volume breakout and hold above 1250 and break 1280-1300, then chase longs targeting 1350-1400, stop loss at 1240; two, pullback to 1185-1200 without breaking, light long position with stop loss below 1150, target 1240-1300. Breaking 1100-1120 means short-term weakness, watch or light short with target 1000.
Swing traders:
Don’t heavy position at 1235. Ideal mid-term entry zone is 1100-1150, enter in batches, strict stop loss below 1080, target first 1400-1500, strong scenario 1600-1700. NU7 landing and ETF progress are catalysts but wait for price to reach entry zone.
Long-term believers:
If you believe in the privacy sector and ZEC’s long-term value, start dollar-cost averaging at 1100-1150, hold for 1-2 years, target higher. But remember: regulatory risks for privacy coins always exist, keep position under 10% of total funds.
ZEC fell from 1700 to 1235, you don’t dare to buy. When it rises back to 1700, you regret not getting in.
But I remind you — this time is different.
The September surge was driven by dual expectations of NU7 and ETF. Now expectations are about to materialize, institutions are selling in the ETF, macro is tightening. If you chase now, you’re betting not on the "privacy narrative," but on "institutions selling faster than you can run."
It’s not that ZEC is bad, it’s that you always rush in at emotional peaks and cut losses at despairing bottoms. $BTC$ETH$ZEC
