SOL at $104 dropped after the upgrade launch, are you panicking?
Solana's biggest upgrade in history, Alpenglow, just went live, cutting transaction speed from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds — yet the price didn't rise but fell, with whales dumping 240,000 SOL to exchanges within 24 hours. Is this wave the end of good news, or are the manipulators using the upgrade to sell off?
Let's look at the surface: good news delivered, but the price softened.
Down 2-3% in 24 hours, trading between 103.5-109 during the day, currently around 104. BTC is also hovering between 81,700-82,000, the whole market is weak. The candlestick chart shows: a drop from the early October high of 120-124, running below short-term moving averages, RSI at 40-50 indicating neutral to weak — all indicators say one thing: short-term momentum is weak, but $100 is the lifeline.
But wait.
Do you really think "upgrade = price pump"?
Good news turning into bad news, the most classic script in crypto, played again.
First: Alpenglow is real strength, but the market isn’t buying it
Mainnet launched on October 21, transaction finality dropped from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds. What does that mean?
In the blink of an eye, Solana has settled the transaction.
A qualitative leap for payments, DeFi, and high-frequency trading. In the long run, this is the key step for Solana to go from "fast but occasionally stuck" to "fast and stable."
But short-term?
Whales transferred 240,000 SOL worth $25 million to Binance, OKX, and Bybit within 24 hours. ETFs saw continuous net outflows, with only a symbolic inflow of 585,000 on October 21.
The upgrade is a promise for the future, whale transfers mean they want to exit now. Which do you believe?
Second: On-chain data is insanely strong, but the price is playing dead
DEX 24-hour trading volume is $2 billion, consistently leading most public chains. TVL is $5.9 billion, stablecoin market cap $15-16 billion, daily active addresses in the millions. Since 2026, stablecoin trading volume has reached $5 trillion.
In plain language:
Solana’s chain is bustling, users are active, funds are flowing, applications are profiting.
But the price fell from 120 to 104, down 13%.
This is called "fundamentals stronger than price."
Also means — the market is waiting for a reason, either to take off or to drop further.
Third: $100, the triple resonance lifeline
Technically clear:
103.5-104 is the daily low, 100-101 is strong support — psychological barrier + previous support-resistance flip + ascending trendline, three factors converging. Analysts call it "triple resonance."
Holding $100 means there’s hope; breaking below $100 targets 95 or even lower.
Resistance above: 106-108 (short-term EMA), 110-112, 117-120.
108 is the short-term watershed; only after holding above can a rebound be discussed.
Bull vs. bear, you decide
On one side:
Alpenglow upgrade delivered, long-term competitiveness transformed
DEX volume, stablecoins, active addresses all rising
100-101 triple resonance support
$5 trillion stablecoin adoption, real ecosystem prosperity
On the other side:
Whales transferred 240,000 SOL to exchanges, real selling pressure
ETF continuous net outflows, institutions cautious short-term
CPI at 3.7% is hot, rate hike expectations rising
FOMC on October 27-28, risk appetite suppressed
Key level 104, just $4 above 100, $4 below 108.
Resistance above: 106-108 (short-term lifeline) → 110-112 → 117-120
Support below: 103.5-104 → 100-101 (iron bottom) → 95
Trading strategy
Short-term traders:
1. Hold 103-104 with volume rebound, light long positions, target 108-112, stop loss below 100.
2. If 100 breaks down with volume, consider short, target 95, stop loss at 103.
Range trade 100-108, sell high buy low, don’t hold losing positions.
Swing traders:
Wait to hold above 108 before adding positions, target 112-117. If below 100, watch decisively, don’t catch falling knives.
Long-term believers:
Around $100 is the accumulation zone. Alpenglow is a substantial upgrade, on-chain data diverges from price — historically, such divergence is either a golden pit or an abyss.
Betting on Solana’s long-term ecosystem value, not weekly price swings.
SOL now is like ETH in 2023 —
After the Merge upgrade, everyone said "good news priced in," price dropped from 1800 to 1200.
What happened?
Six months later it rose back above 2000.
Upgrades are never reasons to pump, but reasons to shake out. After the shakeout, fundamentals speak.
