BTC at $77,900, do you dare to catch it?
Exchange hacked for 6.3 billion, ETF outflow of 640 million in one day, fear index dropped from 70 to 30—but BTC stubbornly held at 77,900, even rebounding 0.9% in 24 hours. Is this the last drop, or is the whale using hackers to shake out weak hands?
Let's look at the surface first: bad news bombardment, but price didn't crash.
In the past month, it dropped 7-8%, weekly down 3-4%, retracing from the October high of 86,000-87,000, breaking below the key support at 80,000, now stuck around 77,900. A slight 24-hour rebound of 0.5-0.9%, recent lows tested 76,100-77,000 with some signs of stabilization. Daily RSI at 37-40, weak but not oversold. The candlesticks tell you one thing: short-term bearish consolidation, but below 77,000, some are starting to buy.
First thing: $6.3 billion hack, the largest ever, but BTC didn't break 77,000.
Binance was hacked for about $6.3 billion, FBI confirmed ties to North Korean TraderTraitor, and has asked the DeFi community to freeze related addresses. Binance said it covered 90-95% of losses with its own funds, withdrawals are gradually resuming.
Sounds like the sky is falling?
ETF outflow of $643 million in one day ended the inflow streak. The Fear & Greed Index plunged from greedy 70 in early October to fearful low 30s.
But look at the market—BTC didn't crash, instead it held firm at 77,900.
What does it mean when bad news can't move the price? This is it.
Hackers stole coins, but can't steal scarcity after halving. Binance can afford the loss, BTC's ledger is immutable. Retail investors are selling at fear index 30, institutions are counting chips on the $57 billion ETF base.
Second thing: ETF outflow of $640 million is risk-off, cumulative $57 billion is base position.
Many only see “ETF outflow of $643 million in one day” and shout institutions are running.
Open your eyes and look at the total: spot ETF cumulative net inflow is still around $57 billion.
A $600 million outflow in one day is short-term risk-off; $57 billion inflow over three years is allocation base.
On-chain data doesn't lie: miner holdings increased, long-term holder selling pressure is relatively controlled, derivatives long liquidations dominate—leveraged longs being cleaned out is the fuel for the bull market to continue.
Third thing: technically at the "bull-bear separation line."
After breaking 80,000, BTC entered consolidation between 77,500-77,000.
Below that, 75,000-76,000 is an important psychological and technical level, highlighted by Bitfinex and other analysts. Further down is 72,500-70,000.
Above, 79,000-80,000 must be reclaimed to talk about a rebound; 82,000-83,000 and 85,000 are previous highs.
4-hour/1-hour charts show slight rebounds but still range-bound, no confirmed bottom reversal.
Volume-supported hold above 80,000 is needed to talk bull return; break below 77,000, next stop 75,000.
80,000 is not a ceiling, but a truth mirror—standing above means bull return, failing means just a rebound.
Bull-bear showdown, judge for yourself:
On one side:
- $6.3 billion hack aftermath, trust crisis not fully digested
- ETF outflow of $643 million in one day, fear index in low 30s
- US Treasury yields and dollar index still suppress risk assets
- BTC dominance at 59%, money still in BTC, no altcoin rotation
- Derivatives leveraged longs just cleaned, sentiment fragile
On the other side:
- Binance covered 90-95% with own funds, withdrawals gradually resuming
- ETF cumulative net inflow of $57 billion still high
- Miner holdings increased, long-term holder selling pressure controlled
- Post-halving cycle, institutional adoption, digital gold attributes unchanged
- Bitwise raised long-term target to $1.6 million by 2036
Key levels
Resistance above: 79,000-80,000 → 82,000-83,000 → 85,000
Support below: 77,500-77,000 → 75,000-76,000 → 72,500-70,000
Trading strategy
Short-term traders:
Hold 77,500 with small position for longs, stop loss below 77,000, target 79,000-80,000. If break below 77,000, try shorts with stop loss above 77,500-78,000, target 75,000. Position size 5-10% of total funds, leverage ≤5-10x. Sentiment fragile after hack, false breakouts likely, avoid chasing highs or panic selling.
Mid-term players:
Wait for confirmation. Volume-supported hold above 80,000 and retest without breaking down, then look to 85,000+. Break below 75,000 may accelerate drop to 70,000. The 75,000-77,000 zone can be used for phased spot or low-leverage longs, strict stop loss, no all-in.
Long-term believers:
Phased dollar-cost average between 75,000-77,000, position no more than 20% of total funds. Short term dominated by hack and fear, long term by halving and adoption. But remember: long-term bullish doesn't mean blindly chasing now.
BTC now is like Bitcoin in March 2020—
99% thought “hack + outflow + fear, it's over,” but what happened?
You sell at fear index 30, institutions count chips on the $57 billion base.
