$IREN reports Q1 FY27 after the close tonight, and both Bernstein and B. Riley have cut their price targets while still telling you to own the stock
Bernstein just took its target to $55 from $100 after Gina Hinojosa beat Greg Abbott in Texas. B. Riley took its target to $64 from $91 on Oct 30 because rising rates make new builds more expensive to finance
Bernstein's cut is about Texas. It says the state is a battleground for AI data centers and accounts for 25% of U.S. data centers under construction
More than 50% of the power portfolio among the miner-turned-AI developers it covers sits in Texas, with IREN, Riot, and Cipher the most exposed
It expects the September pause on grid connections and environmental permits to stay in place, with any data-center legislation stuck in gridlock, and it also blamed high borrowing costs for AI firms
B. Riley's cut is about financing. It thinks the market is assigning near-zero value to future pipeline capacity and pricing a development-stage cost of capital into perpetuity, even though construction financing can serve as bridge capital rather than permanent capital
Bernstein still says those names enjoy approved gigawatt-scale capacity, which may be considered scarce and valuable, and B. Riley called the pullback an attractive buying opportunity

US Investors to Monitor Impact of Midterm Election Results on Data Centre Buildout as Democrats Take Texas, Georgia, Ohio
06:17 AM EST, 11/04/2026 (MT Newswires) -- US investors will likely focus on the potential ramifications for the data centre buildout following the gubernatorial results in Texas, Georgia, and Ohio, where Democratic challengers are on course to unseat Republican incumbents, according to a Danske Bank note Wednesday.
The election result is unlikely to "significantly alter" the fiscal policy outlook, probably implying only a "limited impact" on the US economic growth outlook, Danske analyst Magnus

BREAKING: 🇺🇸 Democrats face a push for a “day 1” ban on AI superintelligence, with up to 20 YEARS in prison for violators.
Arizona Rep. Yassamin Ansari says a pause on advanced AI and a ban on artificial superintelligence must be “top of the Democratic agenda on day 1.”
A bill that would do exactly that was introduced by Bernie Sanders and Greg Casar in September.
Under the bill:
- Developing or deploying superintelligent AI would be banned
- Advanced AI development would pause until a new federal regulator sets rules and a model review process
- A new cabinet-level AI department would monitor frontier models and oversee removing dangerous capabilities, like ignoring shutdown commands
- Companies that try to get around it would face the “corporate death penalty”
- Individuals would face up to 20 years in prison
AI and data centers were a “crucial or major factor” for 56% of voters in the midterms, per an NBC News exit poll.

Democrats have spent the year campaigning against AI. Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez introduced a national data center moratorium bill in March, and Warren opened an investigation into Google, Amazon and Meta over who pays for their data centers' power. The party's own donor money tells a different story.
Reid Hoffman was one of OpenAI's first investors, and he gave Senate Majority PAC $5 million in a single quarter, alongside Dustin Moskovitz and Cari Tuna. House Majority PAC has spent the closing weeks of the midterms attacking Republicans over data center money while taking millions from the industry itself. The retirement side is just as exposed. CalSTRS serves more than a million members, primarily public school educators, and its largest equity holdings include Apple, Nvidia and Microsoft. A party that wants AI cut down is lobbying against its own donors and betting against its own teachers' pensions, and the first hard drop in Nvidia will make that obvious to everyone.
