HYPE at 85 USD, do you still dare to hold it?
The ICE partnership pushed it up to 95, but a whale's 1 billion short position smashed it back to 85—countdown to the November 6 unlock. Is the HYPE in your hands a chip or a bomb?
Let's look at the surface first: the positive news is real, but the short-term price stagnation is also real.
ICE (parent company of NYSE) announced using Hyperliquid's HIP-3 infrastructure to launch a US-compliant perpetual contract, pushing the price briefly above 95. Then? The phrase "subject to CFTC regulatory approval" cooled enthusiasm, big players took the opportunity to cash out, and the price was hammered back to 85. The 24-hour trading volume still exceeds 1 billion, the daily chart stands above the 50-day moving average (82-83), RSI is neutral to slightly bullish, not overbought. Technically, 85-82 is the lifeline; holding it suggests a rebound, breaking it points to 80 or even 77.
First thing: the ICE partnership is genuinely positive, but you bought into the "expectation gap."
Many rushed in seeing the ICE partnership. The result? Bought at 95, trapped at 85.
Did you make a mistake? No. You just didn’t understand one principle:
The moment positive news is realized is the start of a short-term top.
The ICE partnership is a mid-to-long-term logic—Wall Street compliant perpetual contracts landing, Hyperliquid transforming from an "on-chain casino" to "NYSE’s on-chain branch." But the five words "subject to regulatory approval" are the perfect excuse for big players to sell off.
Second thing: whales are betting short, but the protocol is buying back.
Top traders on the Hyperliquid platform hold over 1 billion USD in short positions, including HYPE itself. Paradigm-related unstaking is also increasing short-term supply.
Sounds scary? But look at the other side:
Protocol fees continue converting into HYPE buybacks + burns, with nearly 50 million HYPE burned, about 5% of supply. There are still millions in fee income every 24 hours. Protocol revenue over the past year is about 713 million USD.
Third thing: Is the November 6 unlock a risk or an opportunity?
About 180,000 HYPE allocated to team/contributors will unlock, worth roughly 15 million USD. The scale is not large, but combined with current weak sentiment, it may bring short-term selling pressure.
Are you scared?
Unlocking is short-term noise; buybacks are the long-term trend. Retail focuses on unlock panic; institutions focus on buyback accumulation.
The same script played out with SOL in 2023—post-FTX crash unlocks + selling pressure kept coming, everyone said "Solana is done," but it went from 8 USD to 293.
Bull vs. bear, you decide:
On the bullish side:
ICE partnership, Wall Street compliant perpetual contracts landing mid-to-long term
Protocol revenue 713 million USD/year, buybacks and burns have destroyed 5% of supply
HIP-3 ecosystem expansion (stocks, commodities RWA perpetuals) has high ceiling
Daily chart above 50-day moving average, 85-82 support holding
No heavy VC holdings, airdrop + community-driven, clean chip structure
On the bearish side:
"Subject to CFTC approval" short-term expectation gap realized
Whales betting 1 billion USD short on pullback
November 6 unlock, short-term selling pressure
BTC oscillating between 76,000-78,000, macro pressure
Market cap over 20 billion, valuation not cheap
Key levels
Resistance above: 88-90 → 92-95 → 98 (ATH)
Support below: 85 → 82-83 (moving average) → 80 → 77-78 (October lows)
Trading strategy
Conservative long (main strategy):
Wait for a pullback to 82-83 or stabilization near 85 (hammer/engulfing reversal candle + volume contraction), then lightly go long. Stop loss if daily close breaks below 80-81. First target 88-90 to take half profit, second target 92-95. Position ≤20-30%, leverage within 3-5x.
Aggressive long:
4H/1H volume breakout above 86.5-88 and pullback without breaking, chase long. Stop loss below breakout candle low. Quick in and out, don’t get attached.
Short/hedge (short-term only):
If daily volume break below 85 confirmed, lightly short with target 80-77. Stop loss if price rebounds above 85. Note: don’t short against fundamentals; protocol buybacks are real buying pressure.
Wait and range:
Currently near 85, wait for November 6 unlock reaction. Range trade 82-88, sell high buy low. Long-term holders keep holding, use buyback and burn logic as base, add on big dips.
HYPE now is like SOL in 2023—
99% thought "unlock + short positions + macro issues, it’s over," but it went from 8 USD to 293.
