The Coldcard incident raises an interesting question:
Who really benefits the most? đ€
Ironically, it may not be the hackers.
Many users are migrating to hardware wallets like Ledger and Trezor, but the biggest winners could actually be centralized exchanges such as Coinbase and Binance.
As confidence in self-custody takes a hit, some Bitcoin holders may decide to move their $BTC back onto exchanges, believing it's the safer option.
The saying "Not your keys, not your coins" is absolutely true.
But if your private keys are generated by flawed or compromised code, the end result can be just as risky.
Security isn't just about holding your own keysâit's about being able to trust how those keys were created.
