Wall Street’s AI crash has officially gone global. Asian stocks have now erased $6 trillion since their peaks. 4 major markets are now in BEAR MARKET territory: 1. South Korea, KOSPI: -45% 2. China, CSI 300: -30% 3. Taiwan, TAIEX: -24% 4. Japan, Nikkei 225: -21% Today alone, Asia erased over $1 trillion. This follows US selloff that saw S&P 500 fell -4.4% and the Nasdaq -5.5%, erasing $3 trillion. Investors are now betting a Democratic Congress will put the brakes on AI spending. Fears grew as US lawmakers push a bill to permanently ban artificial superintelligence. Leverage made it worse, as those who borrowed to chase the AI rally were forced to sell into the drop. But why is a US selloff crashing Asian stocks too? Because Asia makes the chips powering America’s AI boom. Samsung and SK Hynix now account for over 50% of South Korea’s KOSPI. TSMC alone is over 40% of Taiwan’s TAIEX. These companies make the chips inside US AI data centers. So if the US cuts AI spending, it buys fewer chips from Asia. That’s why when US investors sold AI stocks, Asian investors sold too.

🚨🇺🇸 The biggest one-day dollar loss in Wall Street history: $2.9 trillion wiped off the S&P 500 because Wall Street thinks Democrats are coming for data centers The Dow fell 1,833 points and erased its entire post-election rally, the Nasdaq dropped 5.5 percent into correction, and Nvidia alone lost $374 billion in a day. The trigger wasn't earnings. Voters put 50 data-center measures on Tuesday's ballots and killed the projects in 47 of them, a quarter of all planned US capacity sits in Texas, and Texas just elected a governor, Gina Hinojosa, who campaigned against the buildout. Meta's own president said data centers were "front and center" in the exit polls. UBS figures 30 percent of planned capacity is now at risk by 2028; OpenAI rushed out a pledge the same afternoon to cut power use at peak hours and keep residents' bills down. Trump blamed Democrats for the drop and he's half right: the market is pricing in what the new Congress and new governors do to the AI boom. The other half is that voters in Lubbock and Collin County looked at $4 gas and a grid strained by server farms and decided they weren't paying for Silicon Valley's electricity. US tech stocks rebounded Friday morning after Thursday's AI-linked selloff, with the Nasdaq 100 up 2.26% and Nvidia rising 6% around 10 a.m. ET. Gains held after October payrolls rose by 165,000, lifting market odds of a December Fed rate hike.

Thursday's AI selloff was positioning, not fundamentals. The positioning (MS Prime Brokerage / QDS): • HF net leverage −5% in one day, 5th largest drop since 2010, now bottom decile • L/S de-grossing since June: −10.7%, most in 10+ years • Levered ETFs sold $57B, the largest on record (2007) • Retail selling 2nd largest since 2016 • HFs now underweight AI vs market cap The fundamentals: • Google: 2027 capex to increase "significantly" • AWS +39% Y/Y rev, sold out of capacity • SK Hynix: DRAM/HBM "effectively sold out" through 2029 • Texas: all permitted data centers allowed to finish, covering 2027 and most of 2028 Forced sellers don't care about fundamentals. Eventually, fundamentals win.

A selloff that erased roughly $3 trillion from the S&P 500 on Thursday left economist Peter Schiff (@PeterSchiff) and Future Fund managing partner Gary Black (@garyblack00) looking at very different prospects for tech investors. Schiff expects further declines. In his view, the midterm shift toward Democratic control of Congress raises the likelihood of higher taxes, larger deficits and more regulation. He sees that combination putting pressure on productivity and keeping inflation and interest rates higher, a difficult backdrop for corporate earnings. Black thinks investors had already anticipated much of the election outcome. He pointed to Kalshi, where traders had put the odds of Democrats winning both chambers at 71%. After the selloff, he saw prices worth considering in a few of the biggest buyers of AI infrastructure. He singled out Alphabet ($GOOGL), Meta Platforms ($META) and Amazon ($AMZN). Black considers their valuations reasonable against expected revenue growth and believes a slower pace of data center investment could benefit those companies. A reduction in spending has different implications for the company writing the check and the supplier counting on the order. Thursday’s losses showed how exposed those suppliers can be. Nvidia ($NVDA) fell about 9%, while AMD ($AMD) and Micron ($MU) each dropped roughly 17%. Schiff sees a warning about the wider economy in that repricing. Black sees room to buy selected companies whose own capital spending helped drive the chip boom.

Friday gave the tape a breather after Thursday's bloodbath. $SPX 7,376.86, +0.3%. Nasdaq bounced 1.1% to 24,579.42. Dow never joined, -0.5% to 51,285.73. Jobs did the lifting: 165,000 payrolls vs roughly 65,000 expected, unemployment 4.1%, wages +3.1% YoY. 10-year back to 4.86%, December hike now the base case. Chips bought the dip: $AMD +11%, $MU +5.1%, $NVDA +2.8%, $INTC +7.7%, $COHR +14%. $NET +10% on a 39% revenue jump, $APP +9.9% on top of Thursday's 31% rip. Still just a bounce. $SPX closed a hair above 7,370 and faded into the close. Week: $SPX -2.7%, Nasdaq -3.4%, worst since June. I'm in cash on the index. Hold 7,370 into the weekend and Monday can build. Lose it and Thursday's lows are back in play. Full breakdown on Patreon, free as always. Link in bio.
