Midterm elections settled
After the Democratic Party swept Congress, Wall Street chose "checks and balances." The Dow Jones closed up 1,569 points on Wednesday, a 3.03% increase, at 53,356 points, marking its best day since April 2025. The S&P 500 rose 1.58% to 7,689 points, and the Nasdaq increased 1.44% to 25,737 points. The biggest gains were in consumer discretionary and financial sectors, while the energy sector fell nearly 5%. The market was trading on two main factors. One was politics. With the Democrats taking both the House and Senate, the probability of checks and balances between the White House and Congress increased. Radical policies, especially those that might increase corporate costs or restrict capital expenditures, face greater short-term difficulty passing. Uncertainty decreased, and risk appetite rebounded. The other factor was oil prices. Brent crude plummeted more than 8% that day, falling below $95 intraday. The market interpreted the change in Congress as a signal that the "Iran conflict might end sooner," quickly removing the premium for Middle East supply disruptions. The drop in oil prices directly benefited airlines, retail, and consumer goods, and also lowered some inflation expectations. Within technology, there was a clear divergence. Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon surged, with Apple and Microsoft hitting new highs; Nvidia, however, fell about 3%, and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped sharply. The market was buying platforms and applications "not directly hit by new regulations," while selling AI infrastructure and chips that might face stricter scrutiny. The Dow rose more sharply than the Nasdaq, not because technology was weak, but because many heavyweight stocks benefited from lower oil prices and reduced policy uncertainty. Breadth was also good, with most sectors closing higher, and the equal-weighted S&P outperforming the market-cap weighted index. The core of this day was not

Even if you can't go to Hong Kong, you can still open a Hong Kong card
If you can't go to Hong Kong, you can still open a Hong Kong bank card. The cost is: a 500,000 pre-deposit, 2-4 weeks, and you have to make a phone call first. Popular banks: Bank of China Hong Kong, HSBC, Standard Chartered, Hang Seng. Required documents: ✅ ID card ✅ Passport / Hong Kong and Macau travel permit (with valid endorsement) ✅ Proof of address within the last three months: utility bills, credit card statements, showing your name and address ✅ Some branches require additional documents: bank statements, social security records, proof of assets Threshold: Most branches require a pre-deposit, commonly 500,000, which must be kept in a designated account for a period to meet the bank's wealth management threshold to qualify for the verification channel. Process: 1. Call in advance to make an appointment at a designated local branch to confirm the latest threshold and avoid a wasted trip; 2. Bring all paper documents to the branch for face-to-face verification and identity check; 3. The branch seals the documents and sends them to the Hong Kong headquarters for review; 4. The process usually takes 2–4 weeks; after approval, the card and password letter are mailed separately to your reserved address; 5. After receiving the card, log in to online banking to activate and enable FPS transfer function. Cost reminder: If the account assets do not meet the minimum requirement, a monthly account management fee will be charged, with different fees at each bank, so be sure to ask clearly before opening the account. The next article will cover offline account opening in Hong Kong, which may have a lower threshold, but there is one thing you must keep safe when passing through. Have you asked your local branch about the threshold? $BTC $ETH $ZEC #非农在即,就业数据能否强化12月加息预期?
The Nasdaq closed up 1.44%, but the three major storage giants collectively fell 5%-8%.
This is not market schizophrenia; they simply do not operate under the same trading logic.
The Nasdaq's heavyweights are software and cloud giants like Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple. As long as they perform well, the index holds up; storage has a smaller weight in the Nasdaq, so even if it collectively drags down, it’s hard to pull the index down.
To explain clearly why cloud giants surged while storage was hammered:
1️⃣|Differentiated pricing on election expectations, the most direct trigger
With the Democrats taking both houses, the market started pricing in: subsequent approvals for data centers, power, AI new projects, and regulations are likely to tighten.
✅ Microsoft / Amazon / Apple: profits come from existing cloud business, not relying on continuously building new data centers, capital clusters around this certainty of cash flow.
❌ Micron, SanDisk, Hynix: orders are highly tied to new computing power construction. Once new data center expansion slows, storage demand expectations are revised down, and capital immediately cashes out and runs.
2️⃣|Storage is essentially a cyclical stock
The cyclical script always repeats: supply shortage → order explosion → capacity expansion and factory building → supply rises, demand lags → valuation cuts. Storage has followed this script for years.
Meanwhile, the Nasdaq’s basket of cloud and consumer platforms has stronger demand sustainability. Even if semiconductor hardware collectively plunges, the index can still hold up.
Do you think this round of storage is a correction or the peak of the cycle?
